Centacare in Bendigo is running some training on Restorative Justice, a way of dealing with young offenders and victims in a restorative, rather than a retributive way.
What's the difference? Restorative Justice aims to get offenders and victims together, face to face, so that offenders can see the damage they have caused, and victims can have their say. Usually, the criminal justice system punishes offenders, but with no real way of them being restored to the community; restorative just aims to rectify that.
If you would like to know more, here is a flier about the event, on 15 July 2010.

Research has been released showing that children can benefit from bullying.
The counterintuitive findings come from a University of California study that showed that "...children become more popular among, and respected by, teachers and fellow pupils if they repay hostility in kind."

John Drower is better known as ‘JD’. JD has been involved in what he calls the 'People Trade' for the last 22 years, 11 of which was in Christian Camping, working with mainly young people. For the last 11 years he’s been working for Youth for Christ & Praxis. If that wasn’t enough, he has been pastoring a church for the last 7 years.

He is married to Trish – they have four kids and have picked up two more 'sons' who have married their daughters.

    JD says about himself:
I'm not quite sure how to explain myself except that God has given me a big dad heart. I love walking with folk, supporting, encouraging, crying with and cheering on. Sometimes the thing that gives me most life also gives me the greatest grief

Come along and share a night of inspiration and practical guidance with JD, as he teaches us why mentoring young people is so important, and how we can do it.
